Footage from a hidden-camera was reportedly shown before the jury in a Bahamas courtroom on Monday in the case involving an alleged extortion attempt against John Travolta.
The tape reportedly shows politician and lawyer Pleasant Bridgewater speaking with Travolta’s attorney and requesting $20 million be given to the paramedic, Tarino Lightbourne, who treated the actor’s son, Jett, on the day of his death, according to the Associated Press.
The tape was reportedly recorded when Bahamas police set up hidden cameras in a hotel room where Bridgewater met with Travolta’s lawyer, Michael McDermott, reports the AP. At one point during the taped encounter, Bridgewater reportedly calls Lightbourne on a cell phone to notify him that Travolta’s attorney is prepared to offer $250,000. She then relays the message from Lightbourne, who allegedly said, "My mortgage is more than that".
"It’s obvious that you can’t handle this deal. I can’t do it for $250,000. Just tell me when I can come and get my document from you", Bridgewater quotes Lightbourne as saying on the videotape that was shown in court, AP reports.
Prior to their arrest, AP reports that prosecutors said Lightbourne and Bridgewater agreed to the amount of $10 million, which would be paid over the course of four years.
